About This Scholarship
The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2027–2028 support highly qualified international researchers who wish to undertake doctoral research or an approved research project at a Swiss higher education institution or recognised research institute.
The programme is offered by the Swiss Confederation through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS). It is designed to strengthen international academic exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and countries around the world.
For the 2027–2028 academic year, the programme is particularly focused on doctoral-level research. Applicants should therefore have a strong academic background and a clearly developed research project that can be undertaken at an eligible Swiss institution.
About the Programme:
-
Research Fellowship: The research scholarship enables selected applicants to undertake a one-year full-time research project in Switzerland as part of their doctoral studies.
-
Doctoral Research: The programme is intended for highly qualified early-career researchers who are pursuing a PhD in their home country and wish to conduct research in Switzerland.
-
Academic Host: Applicants for research scholarships must identify an academic supervisor at a Swiss higher education or research institution who is willing to supervise the proposed research.
-
Eligible Institutions: Research may be conducted at eligible Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, the Federal Institutes of Technology, or recognised research institutes within the ETH Domain.
-
Academic Disciplines: Research scholarships are available across academic disciplines, subject to the specific eligibility conditions and available scholarship category for the applicant's country.
-
International Research Cooperation: The programme is intended not only to support individual researchers but also to encourage long-term academic and research cooperation between Switzerland and other countries.
