About This Scholarship
The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), located in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is a research-focused university dedicated to artificial intelligence. It offers graduate programmes for students who want to develop advanced technical knowledge and contribute to research and innovation in AI.
Applications are open for the Fall 2027 graduate intake. The university welcomes international applicants, including candidates from Nigeria and other African countries, with relevant academic backgrounds and the ability to meet the admission requirements.
This opportunity is particularly relevant to graduates in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics and other related STEM disciplines who want to specialise in artificial intelligence or pursue advanced research.
1. What the scholarship covers
MBZUAI's published funding arrangements for eligible MSc and PhD students include:
- Full tuition: Tuition fees are covered for students admitted under the applicable funded programme.
- Monthly stipend: International MSc students are listed as receiving AED 15,500 per month, while international PhD students are listed as receiving AED 17,500 per month.
- Annual return airfare: One return flight to the student's home country each year during the approved funding period.
- Health insurance: Provided for the approved funding period.
- Residence arrangements: University-sponsored UAE residence visa and Emirates ID for eligible students.
The funding is subject to the university's policies, satisfactory academic progress and continued eligibility. Students are expected to study in person on campus during their funded period.
Important distinction between MSc and PhD funding: The university's current master's admissions page describes eligible MSc programmes as fully funded throughout the programme. For PhD students, the university provides central funding during the first year while the student is matched with a faculty adviser. The student must secure a confirmed adviser match by the end of Year 1 for funding to transition to the adviser's funding. Continued funding is therefore conditional.
