About This Scholarship
The France–South Africa Scholarship Programme 2027 is an international postgraduate scholarship initiative designed to strengthen academic cooperation, scientific research and knowledge exchange between France and Southern Africa. Supported through French cooperation initiatives, the programme provides eligible candidates from South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi with an opportunity to pursue postgraduate education at French higher education institutions, with studies expected to commence in September 2027.
The programme is particularly relevant to academically strong candidates who intend to develop advanced expertise, contribute to research and innovation, or build careers in areas that address major scientific, technological, environmental and socioeconomic challenges. By facilitating postgraduate study in France, the initiative seeks to strengthen the connections between researchers, universities and professional institutions in France and Southern Africa.
Unlike opportunities that focus exclusively on one academic discipline, this programme encompasses a broad range of postgraduate fields. Nevertheless, applicants should pay particular attention to the programme's priority research areas and demonstrate how their proposed studies fit its objectives. A strong application should explain not only why the candidate wishes to study in France but also how the proposed qualification or research project will contribute to their professional development and, where applicable, research and development in their home country or region.
Priority Research Areas
The programme gives particular attention to disciplines connected with strategic scientific and technological priorities. Applicants whose proposed studies align with these areas should clearly explain the relevance of their intended programme or research project.
-
Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies: Relevant areas include artificial intelligence, data science, advanced computing, digital innovation and information and communication technologies. Applicants may demonstrate how their proposed training could support responsible technological development, digital transformation or the application of computational methods to real-world problems.
