About This Job
The World Health Organization is seeking a consultant to support the Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System Investigations and Studies initiative. The consultancy contributes to international efforts focused on influenza surveillance, investigation of emerging and re-emerging respiratory viruses, research coordination and pandemic preparedness.
The work is connected to the operation of an expert group and its network of participating sites. The consultant may contribute to activities involving investigations and studies, development or implementation of standardized protocols, coordination of technical information, reporting, research support and other activities related to influenza and respiratory-virus surveillance.
The initiative forms part of broader global efforts to improve the world's ability to detect, investigate and respond to emerging infectious-disease threats. By supporting investigations and studies across an international network, the programme can contribute to the generation of scientific evidence and the development of approaches that strengthen preparedness for future respiratory-virus events.
The consultancy may be particularly relevant to experienced professionals working in public health, epidemiology, virology, infectious diseases, influenza surveillance, laboratory science, research or related disciplines. Candidates with experience working with international health programmes, surveillance systems, research networks or multidisciplinary scientific teams may be especially well suited to the assignment.
The role provides an opportunity to work within an international public-health environment and contribute to activities that have relevance to global disease surveillance and pandemic preparedness. Depending on the specific responsibilities, the consultant may interact with technical experts, researchers, public-health professionals and other stakeholders involved in influenza investigations and studies.
