About This Grant
The Translated Research Grants 2026 support researchers developing innovative projects at the intersection of language, technology, data and human communication. The programme is organised by Translated's Research Center and is intended to encourage research that can generate new knowledge and contribute to the development of technologies and approaches for understanding, processing and translating human language.
The call is open internationally and is suitable for researchers working across a range of academic disciplines. Applicants may propose a completely new research project or develop a research component that forms part of an existing programme of work.
About the Programme:
The 2026 research call is built around five priority areas: language economics, language data, machine learning algorithms for translation, human-computer interaction and neuroscience of language.
These themes reflect the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of language research. Modern translation and communication technologies draw on fields such as artificial intelligence, computational linguistics, statistics, cognitive science, neuroscience, economics and computer science.
-
Language Economics: This area may interest researchers examining the economic value of multilingual communication, translation services, language technologies, productivity or the effects of language-related technologies on organisations and markets.
-
Language Data: This theme focuses on the importance of high-quality linguistic information for research and technological development. Projects may examine the collection, organisation, analysis or use of language datasets and the challenges associated with developing reliable resources for different languages.
-
Machine Learning Algorithms for Translation: This area is relevant to researchers investigating artificial intelligence methods for improving automated translation and language-processing systems. Research may involve computational approaches, model development, evaluation methods, multilingual systems or other technical questions related to machine translation.
