About This Grant
The Francesc Moragas Research Grants 2026 are a specialised research funding programme offered by Fundación ”la Caixa” for Master's Final Projects, doctoral research and postdoctoral research in the humanities and social sciences. The programme is dedicated to research into the legacy of Francesc Moragas, a pioneering figure in social action in Spain and founder of the Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez y de Ahorros, associated with the origins of ”la Caixa”.
Unlike a general research grant, this programme has a clearly defined thematic focus. Applicants are expected to develop research connected with the legacy of Francesc Moragas, with particular attention to the period from the end of the nineteenth century through his death in 1935. The call also provides scope for research examining the history of the social work of ”la Caixa” and related cultural, social and economic questions.
The programme is particularly relevant to researchers working with historical sources, social institutions, social and economic development, cooperation and solidarity, institutional history, social action and related areas of the humanities and social sciences. Research may also examine cooperation and solidarity in the European and Mediterranean context, including comparisons between Catalan experiences and other international models.
Fundación ”la Caixa” maintains a Historical Archive containing documentation associated with the institution and its history. Where relevant, applicants can incorporate material from the archive into their research, and the proposed use of these historical sources forms part of the programme's assessment of the project's relevance.
