About This Fellowship
The Zonta Amelia Earhart Fellowship supports women pursuing doctoral research in aerospace engineering and space sciences. Established in 1938 in honour of aviator and Zontian Amelia Earhart, the fellowship is designed to help women advance in highly specialised scientific and engineering fields where women remain underrepresented.
For the 2027 award cycle, Zonta International will select up to 30 Fellows worldwide. Each selected Fellow will receive a US$12,000 fellowship award to support her doctoral studies and research.
The fellowship can be used at any university or college offering accredited postgraduate courses and degrees in aerospace engineering or space sciences. This means applicants do not have to study at a particular institution or in a particular country.
The programme is particularly relevant to researchers working on advanced questions related to aviation, aerospace systems, space exploration, astrophysics, planetary science and other areas connected to aerospace engineering or space sciences.
Zonta's current Fellows demonstrate the breadth of research that can qualify. Recent recipients have worked in areas including astrophysics, aerospace engineering and planetary science. The programme has supported women from countries across the world and has awarded more than 1,800 fellowships since its establishment. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
The fellowship is intended for researchers who are already substantially engaged in doctoral-level study. Applicants must therefore be able to demonstrate a strong academic record as well as research that has a clear application to aerospace engineering or space sciences.
