About This Fellowship
The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), in collaboration with the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, is inviting applications for its 2027 Fellowship Programme. The programme provides early-career researchers with an opportunity to contribute to international Arctic research and collaborate with experts working on some of the world's most important environmental and societal challenges.
A total of 10 fellowships are available for the 2027 programme. Successful fellows will participate in one of the IASC Working Groups or the Standing Committee on Indigenous Involvement, depending on their eligibility and research interests.
The IASC Fellowship Programme supports collaboration among early-career researchers working on Arctic-related scientific questions. Fellows gain opportunities to participate in international scientific discussions, build professional networks, and contribute to research activities coordinated through IASC.
The programme covers several research areas, including atmospheric science, the cryosphere, marine science, terrestrial systems, and social and human sciences. Selected Indigenous fellows may also contribute to the Standing Committee on Indigenous Involvement.
The first fellowship year runs from the Arctic Science Summit Week in 2027 through the summit in 2028. Fellows receive travel support to attend both events. Participation may continue for up to two additional years, but this extended period does not include dedicated funding from IASC.
Available Fellowship Opportunities
The 2027 programme includes:
- Seven regular IASC Fellowships.
- One IASC Indigenous Fellowship for an eligible early-career Arctic Indigenous scholar or knowledge holder.
- One IASC-FPA2 Indigenous Fellowship for an eligible early-career Arctic Indigenous scholar or knowledge holder.
- One IASC-FPA2 Science Diplomacy Fellowship for an early-career researcher with an interest or background in science diplomacy.

Applicants for the regular fellowships must generally meet the following requirements:
- Be a PhD student, PhD candidate, or postdoctoral researcher who is within five years of completing their doctorate.
- Be located at or affiliated with an institution in an IASC member country.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in contributing to one of the IASC Working Groups or the Standing Committee on Indigenous Involvement, as applicable.
