About This Fellowship
The Internet Society Fellowship Programme is a structured learning and leadership initiative designed to help participants develop the knowledge, networks and practical skills needed to strengthen and expand the Internet in their communities. The 2027 programme combines self-paced pre-fellowship training, foundational leadership learning, mentorship, expert engagement and the implementation of a practical project.
Rather than being a conventional academic scholarship, this is a non-degree professional fellowship. Participants are expected to develop and implement a project that addresses an Internet-related challenge or opportunity. Project outputs may include research reports, policy briefs, community training, awareness campaigns, technical resources, workshops, implementation plans or other practical deliverables.
Programme Tracks
Applicants must choose one track and its relevant sub-track during the pre-fellowship training process.
1. Internet Policy and Mobilization
This track focuses on Internet policy, Internet governance, advocacy and community participation. Its sub-tracks are Internet Policy and Community Mobilization. Applicants choosing Community Mobilization must meet the programme's specific membership requirement for an Internet Society chapter, special interest group or standing group.
2. Internet Connectivity
This track focuses on Internet infrastructure, network interconnection and community-centred connectivity. Its sub-tracks are Peering and Community-Centered Connectivity. The Peering sub-track has regional eligibility restrictions, so applicants must consult the official track guidance before enrolling.
3. Internet Safety and Security
This track supports work related to systems security, cybersecurity and online trust and safety. It is suitable for people interested in developing practical projects that contribute to a safer and more secure Internet.
Applicants should review the official track descriptions and prerequisite courses before selecting their preferred area.
