About This Conference
The Association for Asian Studies (AAS) Annual Conference Travel Grant provides financial assistance to individuals who would otherwise have difficulty meeting the cost of participating in the AAS Annual Conference.
The 2027 conference will be held in Boston and brings together more than 3,600 scholars and other participants working on Asia across approximately 30 academic disciplines. The programme covers research relating to countries and regions throughout Asia rather than being restricted to one particular discipline or research area.
The travel grant is intended to help eligible participants meet part of the cost of attending the conference. AAS gives particular priority to presenters, graduate students, and junior faculty or early-career scholars, making the award especially relevant to researchers who are still establishing themselves academically.
The conference itself is an in-person event, so recipients should be prepared to attend in Boston rather than participate remotely. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
What the Grant Provides
Each selected applicant receives a US$500 travel grant.
The money is intended to help defray the cost of attending the AAS Annual Conference. It is not a full conference sponsorship and does not automatically cover registration, airfare, accommodation and other expenses.
AAS specifically states that conference participants are generally responsible for their own registration, travel and hotel costs. Applicants should therefore regard the US$500 as a contribution toward their overall attendance expenses rather than a promise of complete financial support. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}
